Colonel Hardacre heads the squad of US soldiers occupying the small rural village.

One of the most respected character actors of our time, Chris Cooper has appeared in over fifty films, and AMIGO marks his fifth collaboration with John Sayles, who gave him his start with the lead role of Joe Kenehan in Matewan. Other Sayles films include City of Hope, Lone Star, and Silver City in which he played a character resembling the young George Bush, Jr. In 2003, he won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a supporting role for his portrayal of the gap-toothed orchid thief John Laroche in Adaptation. Other notable films include Seabiscuit, American Beauty, The Bourne Identity, Breach, Capote, Syriana, and October Sky.  Recently, he was the voice of Douglas in Where the Wild Things Are, and played Ben Affleck’s father in the Boston crime saga The Town.

Cooper will next be seen in the Walt Disney Pictures’ film The Muppets, as the villain ‘Tex Richman.’ The 2011 incarnation of The Muppets follows ‘Kermit the Frog’ and his Muppet friends as they try to save their old theater. The Muppets is directed by James Bobin and will be released on November 23rd, 2011.

For television, he appeared opposite Maggie Smith in My House in Umbria and in the acclaimed miniseries Lonesome Dove and Return to Lonesome Dove. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Cooper attended the University of Missouri School of Drama and started his professional career on the New York stage. His theatre credits include Of The Fields Lately on Broadway, and The Ballad of Soapy Smith at the Public Theatre. Cooper resides in Massachusetts with his wife, actress and writer, Marianne Leone.
